Before You Travel

Want to travel without hurting your wallet? How about going around the world?

Traveling The World

Let’s go around the world.

Before you start, get yourself a travel credit card. My favorite by far, is currently the Chase Sapphire Preferred.

If you are traveling and plan to use public wifi from airports and hotels, you must have a VPN to protect yourself.

If you are traveling internationally (outside the USA), note that covid is still not over. You need to take lots of precaution, take tests, do your research, and in some countries you need to get travel insurance to cover potential covid treatments. I personally used Squaremouth, which is a search platform that compares different travel insurance plans. You can also filter which ones are the most affordable (Alex and I scored a plan that is 2 months long for only $100 for BOTH of us!) So a plan for only 1-2 weeks will be significantly less.

A couple of tricks to searching your travels. One of the best suggestions I can offer (if you aren’t shopping with points or miles) is to search for a travel package together. It brings the cost down a lot more than booking flights and hotels separately. Top favorites are Kayak (partnered with HotelsCombined) and Expedia.

However, before officially booking anything, be sure to activate cash back sites that offer rewards on travel purchases. Rakuten and BeFrugal are my top 2 favorites. I highly recommend getting both and comparing which one is offering a better deal (since you can’t double dip).

In addition to these sites, you can also get a few other browser extensions that pop up if they detect a coupon code that applies to your website (so this works beyond travel, it works with retail purchases as well!). My favorites are Coupert, and Honey.

If you’re looking to stay outside of the typical hotel rooms, don’t be afraid to explore staying at an Airbnb as well.
